1st Impressions Standard Operating Procedures

During my tenure as office manager at 1 st Impressions, I learned that the company needed instructions for both their database and financial software. When Bob Ball, Vice President for 1 st Impressions, approached me to create a standard operating procedures manual, I jumped at the chance to apply all of the technical writing skills I learned at school.

My goal in creating this manual was to provide future employees with a comprehensive set of instructions that would guide them as they learned their positions. I created the entire manual in MS Word because the company wanted a document that could be managed from within their office and MS Word was the owners’ primary software choice. However, if I were to approach this document today with my current experience, I would have used InDesign and suggested that 1 st Impressions purchase the software.

In addition, I created this manual during the summer prior to my entry into graduate school, and, when compared to my work since then, my growth as a writer and scholar is evident.
