Undergraduate Honors Thesis

The Honors College at the University of South Florida requires that all undergraduate students in the college complete a senior honors thesis in order to graduate with honors. My thesis blossomed into a means for me to work towards change in the USF English Department.

My thesis consisted of a survey of over seventy undergraduate technical and professional writing programs, a description of the characteristics of superior programs and a comparison of those programs to the curriculum at USF. I concluded the thesis with recommendations for ways that the USF curricula could be revised.

In the end, I was able to present my research to the entire English department and answer faculty questions both about my research and my perspective as a student. I don’t know that all of my recommendations were implemented, but I know that many faculty took my words to heart and modified their individual class syllabi.
